Do not disturb nutrition

There have been tumbleweeds rolling around the blog and my social media channels these past few weeks and I thought I should drop you all a line to let you know I am still here!

I sat my final exam for my first semester of dietetics last week and am SO RELIEVED that I passed. It was a real doozy of an exam and after spending two solid weeks studying for it and then stressing about whether I had done enough to pass; my brain has been left well and truly fried.

There has also been a flood of activity online relating to nutrition over the last couple of weeks that has frazzled my brain even more. Here are just some of the things that I have come across:

  • A celebrity chef has had a dig at the entire dietetics profession and has been applauded for doing so by their 200,000+ followers
  • A nutritionist who I admire for their no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is approach has had to justify why they have certain foods in their fridge as a pre-emptive measure against internet trolls
  • A person has decided that shakes from a dubious supplement company are the solution to their child’s fussy eating
  • Another person has been using a forum about blogging to push their petition against the Heart Foundation’s Tick Program

Sigh. The collective effect of all of this has left me needing to take a bit of a break from blogging and social media.

But now that I have had a chance to catch my breath; rather than feeling despair about the magnitude of the misinformation being presented to you all, I can see that there are so many opportunities for the nutrition and dietetic profession to set the record straight, encourage healthy, sustainable eating behaviours, promote the profession and maybe even gain a bit of respect along the way! And for me personally – well there are four topics that I could tackle in blog posts right there!!

But rather than give the misinformants and trolls anymore publicity, I want to hear from YOU. Tell me what you want to know about when it comes to food, nutrition and health. What troubles you? What confuses you? What have you heard about but want to know more of? I would MUCH rather use my blog posts to solve your problems. So leave me a comment below or send me an email – I would love to hear from you!

P.S. I am also (not so secretly!) pleased with myself that I have managed to squeeze a picture of one of my cats into this post. It was bound to happen eventually!
